About the Finnmarksbunad In
1950 Finnmark Husflidslag agreed to start the work to reconstruct a fest bunad
for women. But, to find old costumes from Finnmark after the WWII was almost
impossible. So, it had to be based on written sourses from the National Archives
collections in Trondheim ("Skriftssamlingen"). They found some written
material on womens costumes from Loppa and Vadsø from the 1700s and later.
Written was descriptions of colors and materials. Red, blue and black were the
most common colors. The bodice in red wool is a copy
from a womans shirt found on Tromsø Museum. The silver originate from
findings on Årøy in Altafjord, and the artist Iver Jåks made the design to
what it is today. There is no embroidery on the bunad
itself. Only the shirt has white embroideries on the neck- and the wristbands.
The only decorations are the red and green stripes on the skirt, and the
silver on the bodice. |
