Womens bunad from Nordfjord
This
is Synneve, an "american" born to a Norwegian mother and an
American father. She is wearing the Nordfjord Bunad of her mother, which
is from Hornindal in Nordfjord. It is made by a cousin of Synneve's
grandmother.
Thank you to Patti Goke for the picture |
More about the Nordfjord bunad
In the 1920s, the interest for old, local traditions grew
all over Norway. So also in Nordfjord. The first bunad was made by Mina Rye.
Later, in 1947 Firda Ungdomslag began the registration of old clothings, to make
a new bunad. The collected material showed that there were no reason to make big
changes, and the bunad still looks almost the same as the one from 1928.
The bunad has been used with both green, black, red or blue
bodice. Today it is mostly made with black or green bodice.
