Man's Bunad from Nordland

terje.JPG (88074 bytes)This is Terje, who looks great in his friend's Nordlands bunad. The picture was taken between lots of antiques in a really old house in Lom, Oppland. Notice the beautiful door behind him!

The interest for a mans bunad in Nordland started in early 1920s. The magazine "Midnattsol" searched for different fabrics that could be used. In 1923 Johs. Eidsnes ment that they had enough material to work out a new bunad.

Eidsnes was to get married the next year, and the tailor Cornelius Jakobsen was set to make the bunad that was to be used in Eidsnes' wedding. Johs. Eidsnes did not use a hat, but, he mentions that a black high hat has been used.  The bunad has a short black jacket with 2 rows of silver buttons, but the jacket is not to be locked. The shirt has the same embroidery  as the womens bunad.
